The Ockbrook and Borrowash Branch Labour Party launched  a consultation on the Conservative Derbyshire County Council’s proposed street lighting ‘switch off’ outside the Borrowash Co-op on Saturday, 24th September.

The Tory County Council wants to switch off lighting between midnight and 5am in villages like Ockbrook and Borrowash — and at the same time, the Conservative-led Government is stubbornly sticking to its plans to cut the number of    front-line police officers, despite the chaos of the recent riots. What price safety?!

Leicestershire County Council has discovered that cutting street lighting doesn’t even save much  money – so why hasn’t Derbyshire County Council learnt the lesson?

To make matters worse, they are potentially risking  our safety without  even carrying out a proper consultation! Only certain chosen groups, like certain Parish Councils  are being consulted!

We believe that you have  there right to be  consulted about your safety and that your family.

Vice Chair of Ockbrook and Borrowahs Branch Labour Party, Philip Whitt said:

We were delighted with the response  to our lighting consultation launch! People were really interested in the issue and cross that they had not been given  the chance  to have their say! We will now be extending our consultation to everybody who lives in Ockbrook and Borrowash  Watch this space” .
